Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about offshore hosting, privacy, jurisdiction, and payments.

Offshore Hosting & Jurisdiction
What is offshore hosting?
Offshore hosting means your server is physically located in a country outside your home jurisdiction — one with an independent legal framework for content, privacy, and copyright. Servers at TheOnionHost operate in Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Moldova. Foreign takedown requests, including US DMCA notices, require local court proceedings in the server's jurisdiction to be legally enforceable.
Which countries are your servers located in?
TheOnionHost operates servers in Sofia (Bulgaria), Kyiv (Ukraine), Chișinău (Moldova), and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Each location operates independently under its own national legal framework. Iceland is planned for expansion.
How are content complaints handled?
Our servers are located in European jurisdictions including Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, and the Netherlands. Content-related complaints are reviewed in accordance with the applicable law in each server's jurisdiction. We evaluate each complaint individually and forward it to the relevant account holder for response. For a full breakdown of what is and isn't permitted, see our Acceptable Use Policy.
Privacy & KYC
Do you require KYC or ID verification?
No. Standard plans require only a working email address. No government-issued ID, no address, no phone number. Customers paying with Monero or Bitcoin can maintain complete payment anonymity. Dedicated server orders may request minimal contact information for hardware provisioning purposes only.
Payments & Pricing
What cryptocurrencies do you accept?
We accept Bitcoin (BTC), Monero (XMR), Ethereum (ETH), USDT (Tether), Litecoin (LTC), and other major cryptocurrencies. Monero is recommended for maximum payment privacy. We also accept PayPal and major credit/debit cards.
How much does offshore VPS hosting cost?
Offshore VPS starts from $19.99/month (1 vCPU, 1GB RAM, 20GB NVMe, unmetered bandwidth, 500Gbps DDoS included). See the full Pricing page for all plans.
How much does a dedicated server cost?
Dedicated servers start from $80/month for bare-metal in Bulgaria. Netherlands dedicated servers start from €129/month. Streaming-optimized servers with 10–40Gbps ports start from $330/month. View all configurations on the Pricing page.
What is your refund policy?
Shared hosting and VPS plans include a 7-day money-back guarantee when paid by card or PayPal. Dedicated servers are non-refundable due to hardware provisioning costs. Crypto payments are refunded as account credit only. See our full Refund Policy.
Technical & Support
What is your uptime guarantee?
TheOnionHost targets 99.9% network uptime. Our infrastructure uses enterprise-grade hardware with redundant power and network paths. All plans include 500Gbps DDoS protection at no extra charge.
What virtualization technology do your VPS use?
All VPS plans use KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) virtualization with NVMe-only storage. Full root access is included. You receive a dedicated IP address, and can install any OS or custom image.
How do I contact support?
Support tickets can be submitted at billing.theonionhost.com. Average first response time is under 2 hours. We do not offer phone support. Abuse reports can be sent to [email protected].
