🔒 Monero recommended for maximum privacy. Unlike Bitcoin, Monero transactions are untraceable by design — ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential amounts make it impossible to link payments to your identity. All other crypto accepted too, but XMR is the privacy-first choice for offshore infrastructure.

Jurisdiction matters

Why offshore for Web3

Crypto infrastructure has unique legal and operational requirements that offshore hosting is designed to meet.

01 — Jurisdiction
Outside US/EU regulatory reach

Servers in Bulgaria and Ukraine operate under local law. DMCA notices, SEC subpoenas, and OFAC-related requests require local court proceedings — a slow, expensive process most regulators don't pursue.

02 — Privacy
No-log infrastructure, no KYC

Standard orders require only an email address. Pay with Monero for maximum payment privacy. No real-name registration, no passport uploads, no address verification. Run nodes pseudonymously.

03 — Performance
Bare-metal, not throttled cloud

AWS and GCP throttle CPU during sustained load — problematic for validators and block production. Bare-metal dedicates 100% of the hardware to your workload, 24/7, with no noisy neighbors.

04 — DDoS resilience
500Gbps protection included

Blockchain infrastructure is a frequent DDoS target — validators, RPC endpoints, and exchange backends are all attacked regularly. 500Gbps on-network scrubbing is included on every plan at no extra cost.

05 — Uptime
99.9% SLA, generator-backed

Validator downtime means slashing penalties. Our Tier III data centers in Sofia and Kyiv have redundant power, backup generators, and multiple upstream providers to ensure your node stays online.

06 — Control
Full root and IPMI access

Custom kernel parameters, specific blockchain client versions, custom firewall rules — all possible with full root access. Dedicated servers include IPMI for hardware-level console access without needing support tickets.

Questions

Crypto & Web3 FAQ

Can I pay for hosting with Bitcoin or crypto?
Yes. TheOnionHost accepts Bitcoin (BTC), Monero (XMR), Litecoin (LTC), USDT (TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20), Ethereum (ETH), and 50+ other cryptocurrencies via Cryptomus. No KYC or identity verification required for standard orders — email address only.
What hardware do I need to run an Ethereum or Solana node?
Ethereum full node requires 2TB+ fast NVMe SSD, 16GB+ RAM, and 4+ CPU cores. Archive node needs 12TB+. Solana validator requires 256GB RAM, dual NVMe drives (accounts + ledger separate), and 1Gbps network. Our dedicated server range covers all these configurations starting from $105/month for Ethereum-class hardware and $190/month for Solana-class.
Are these servers offshore and outside US/EU jurisdiction?
Yes. All servers are physically located in Bulgaria and Ukraine. Bulgaria is an EU member state but does not enforce US legal instruments such as the DMCA. Ukraine operates under fully independent Ukrainian law. Foreign legal requests — including SEC subpoenas, OFAC-related demands, or DMCA notices — require local court proceedings to carry enforceable weight, a process that is expensive and rarely pursued.
Is crypto mining allowed?
CPU and GPU mining is not permitted on VPS or shared plans due to resource constraints affecting other users. Dedicated bare-metal servers can be used for mining operations — you have the full hardware to yourself and full power allocation. Contact us before ordering to confirm your specific mining requirements are compatible with available hardware.
Do I need to verify my identity (KYC)?
No. Standard orders require only an email address. No passport, no ID document, no address verification. For enhanced privacy, use a temporary email and pay with Monero — the most privacy-preserving payment method available.
Can I run a VPN or Tor exit node?
VPN servers and Tor relay nodes are permitted. Tor exit nodes require prior discussion — exit traffic policies vary by data center and jurisdiction. Contact us before ordering to confirm your specific use case is supported and to choose the most appropriate location.
What operating systems are available?
All major Linux distributions are available: Ubuntu 20.04/22.04/24.04, Debian 11/12, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux. Custom OS images can be deployed via IPMI on dedicated servers. Windows Server is available on request for dedicated plans.
